Customize Windows 7 Start Menu

To change the settings for Windows 7’s Start Menu

To change the number of entries on the Start menu or to pin stuff to your Start menu or Taskbar is easy.

  • Right click on the Start button (aka the Orb)
  • Click on Properties in the pop-up menu which appears.
  • You’ll see this:

Start Menu Properties

  • Click on the Customize button and voila!
  • You’ll get this:

Start Menu Customize

You can change the number of programs to display using the rollover buttons above.

But wait!

You’re right, there’s more.

You can pin a program to the Start Menu or to the Taskbar by right-clicking on the program’s icon and selecting the appropriate action. Any icon on the Taskbar,  the Desktop, Windows Explorer or in the Start Menu will give you this option.
